PortMaster installation checklist
PortMaster games and handheld Linux guide · Updated October 2026
To install PortMaster, identify your handheld firmware, use its documented Ports or Tools directory, select an appropriate installer, and verify that the application opens before adding games.
Identify the installed firmware
Before copying anything, confirm whether the device runs ArkOS, ROCKNIX, AmberELEC, muOS, KNULLI or another supported setup. Folder structures are not interchangeable. Check your firmware build and the supported-device information rather than guessing from the handheld model.
Choose the install package
The standard installer provides PortMaster itself. A full installer includes additional runtimes and can be more convenient for devices that will operate offline. Both approaches require enough free space on the storage card and a compatible firmware layout.
Place files in the correct directory
Consult the installation page for the current firmware-specific location. For example, some firmwares use a ports directory while ArkOS commonly uses a tools directory. Paths and letter case matter on Linux filesystems.
Verify the first launch
Safely eject the card, boot the handheld and open its Ports or Tools menu. Launch PortMaster and verify that the interface opens without an error. If it fails, verify that files were extracted rather than left inside a ZIP and check executable permissions.
Add ports only after verification
Install a small ready-to-run port first to confirm the basic setup. Once it launches, try a Files Needed title with its required assets. Keep a backup of save data before changing runtimes, formatting cards or updating firmware.
Common questions
Do I need Wi-Fi to install PortMaster?
Not always. An offline installation can be possible with installer files and runtimes prepared on another computer, depending on firmware.
Can I install PortMaster on a regular Windows PC?
The application is intended for compatible Linux handhelds, not as a native Windows application.
Next steps and references
The right setup depends on your firmware and the individual game port. Verify the current compatibility notes before copying files, changing permissions or replacing runtimes.
